Luis G. Castillo – Entrepreneur, Real Estate Investor, and Global Trade Expert
Luis G. Castillo’s journey is one of resilience, expertise, and entrepreneurial success. Originally from Nicaragua, he moved to Costa Rica to study economics due to political instability in his home country. In 1983, he immigrated to the United States, where he spent 15 years in the flower industry, eventually rising to a top management position. However, driven by a passion for business and financial growth, he transitioned into real estate and mortgage lending in 1990, initially part-time before fully committing. By 1995, his office was closing approximately 30 deals per month.
In 2000, Mr. Castillo expanded his expertise into international trade finance, working closely with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). By 2002, he was closing multi-million-dollar domestic and international transactions. As an emerging entrepreneur, he founded Luis G. Castillo Inc., conducting seminars and facilitating EXIM Bank transactions worldwide. In 2008, he rebranded his company as Global Trade Insurance Corp., which has since been recognized as one of EXIM Bank’s top-tier producers. For the past four years, the company has been among the leading nationwide brokers of this prestigious U.S. government agency.
In 2021, Mr. Castillo was appointed as an Inaugural Advisory Council Member for EXIM Bank and was reappointed for the 2023–2024 Broker Advisory Council. His expertise in global trade finance has led him to host numerous business seminars in Latin America and the Caribbean in collaboration with U.S. embassies and chambers of commerce. His most recent seminar took place in Guatemala in October 2023, and he has been a featured speaker at international events, including engagements in Argentina and Chile in 2024.
Beyond finance, Mr. Castillo is an accomplished real estate investor. He has successfully developed, acquired, and managed properties across multiple regions:
• South Carolina – Joint venture investment in a major shopping center.
• North Carolina – Development of hundreds of acres in Spruce Pine.
• Brazil – Acquisition of a multifamily project in Petrópolis.
• Texas – Recent purchase of a 100-unit apartment complex as General Partner and Asset Manager.
His leadership extends beyond business, having served as President and Board Member of several business associations and chambers of commerce, including organizations representing Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Trinidad, Brazil, the Caribbean, and the Exporters Association of the U.S. Through these roles, he has built strong trade and business relationships across South America and the Caribbean.
Recognition and Personal Life
Mr. Castillo has received numerous accolades for his contributions to business and community development. In 2023, he was awarded the highest civilian recognition by the U.S. Congress, receiving the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for his impact on Miami and South Florida, personally signed by Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar.
He currently resides in Miami, Florida, where he has been happily married for 40 years to his high school sweetheart, Rina. Together, they have two daughters, Melissa and Veronica, and two beloved grandchildren, Matias and Enzo.
With a distinguished career in real estate, trade finance, and global business development, Luis G. Castillo continues to empower businesses, foster international commerce, and contribute to economic growth on a global scale.
