My name is Rae Yerkey and I am in Sales/Business Development with Piton Investment Management.
By way of background, the firm is a fixed income asset manager primarily providing customized separate account management. Stemming from NYC-based mortgage REIT, Annaly Capital Management, founding partner, Jim Fortescue and Kristopher Konrad, brought nearly 40 years of combined experience together to found the firm in 2015. Brian Lockwood (CIO/SnrPM) and the rest of the team joined from HSBC Private Bank Americas in 2018 in an effort to provide institutional access to government, municipal and corporate bond markets. Our team has extensive history managing fixed income strategies and protecting capital through multiple interest rate environments and market cycles. Piton believes clients deserve solutions tailored to their specific objectives, liquidity needs and risk parameters for “cash-management,” taxable and tax-exempt fixed income strategies. Piton provides clients dedicated service across custodian platforms (including Schwab, Fidelity, TD and Pershing), full transparency and direct access to Piton’s CIO. Piton has been managing separately managed accounts since 2018 and claims compliance with the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®).
Piton has also aligned with ClearShares LLC, an investment advisory firm whose core business is providing investment advisory services to two ETFs: ClearShares Ultra-Short Maturity ETF – OPER and ClearShares Piton Intermediate Fixed Income – PIFI (Actively Managed Intermediate Fixed Income). Ninety-eight per cent of the 525 bond ETFs now have a negative return YTD. Only 15 bond ETFs have positive returns for 2022 so far and OPER is ranked number 9th amongst those 15. We believe OPER can be a strong addition to client portfolios by providing positive returns with very limited volatility. We expect OPER to be a beneficiary of a rising rate environment, unlike other fixed income ETFs with direct yield curve exposure.
Lastly, we provide customized MBS strategies/portfolios. Minimum $2.0mm acct size. Assets are 100% Agency MBS (backed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or Ginnie Mae) and carry “implied AAA” ratings as principal is backed by the US government. These portfolios are typically comprised of more than 90% in Agency CMOs with the balance in collateral pools. Kris Konrad runs our efforts here and I think you’ll find Kris’ background extremely helpful in addition to his ability to source bonds and provide direction in the space.
